Where's the Media?

posted Tuesday, 26 May 2009

Talk about your double standard.

President Obama nominated Sonia Sotomayor, an appeals court judge, for the Supreme Court. In a past speech, she stated, "I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life." Really? You really just said that?

Where's the media with this statement? Where's the public outcry? Holy Crap, if an old, white male appeals court judge said something along the lines of, "I would hope that a wise white male with the richness of his experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a (you pick - black female, hispanic female, latina female, etc. - you get the picture) who hasn't lived that life." Not only is her statement racist, it's sexist as well.

I'm the first one to point out that political correctness is killing this country. However, its here and we have to currently deal with it. All I ask is for some consistency. If one person can say it, we all get to say it. Let's not play favorites here.

A side note here as well - a Supreme Court Justice doesn't need ANY particular life's experience. They are there to review the nation's laws and judge whether they are allowed under the Constitution, not run around with their emotions or reflect on past experiences. It's that simple.
