Sen. Edward M. Kennedy - Dead at 77

posted Wednesday, 26 August 2009

So, Teddy Kennedy has passed. Not unexpected as he was battling brain cancer. My grandfather had brain cancer and that's a rough thing to go through. My thoughts are with his family.

For any family the loss of a member, even one who has led a relatively long life, is a tragedy, so I can feel for the Kennedy family's loss. I feel no personal loss, however, because I find nothing admirable about the man himself. His legislative accomplishments are in most instances ones that have hurt, rather than helped, the country, realizing, of course, that others have different opinions based on differing ideologies. In his personal life, he was truly wretched, the killing of Mary Jo Kopechne being the nadir of his drunken, debauched personal life.

While I will not celebrate the death of this so-called man, I will not celebrate his life either. His true morals were revealed on that night he let Mary Jo Kopechne drown. Even though he might not have been able to save her, as in true Kennedy fashion, he was more concerned about his career and reputation. For people to just brush that aside shows just how far down we have gone as a society.
